Tips For Creating Eye-Catching Missing Pet Flyers

by Doris Washington

When a pet has run away or gotten lost, your first thought is probably to head to the local printer with an 8.5x11 sheet of paper that you've turned into a "Lost Pet" flyer. Unfortunately, these single-sheet printed flyers are often hard to see or get dismissed. If you want your missing pet flyer to catch attention, there are a few things that you can do. Here's a look at what you need to know to create posters that stand out amidst the crowd.

Start With Fluorescent Poster Board

Large poster board is easier to spot when you're hanging things up, but if you opt for white or other soft colors, it's still likely to blend into the other signs and things posted around it. Instead, make your flyers really stand out by choosing a fluorescent color for the poster board. You'll have a large backdrop for the sign and one that is going to catch people's attention.

Use Big Lettering On The Poster Board

Buy some large-sized stencils and a dark marker to build the foundation of your sign. Put the word "REWARD" at the top in big enough letters for people to see it even if they're driving by. Then, at the bottom, do the same with the word "LOST" followed by whatever type of pet you've lost.

Create Your Standard Flyer

Now that you have people's attention, it's time to start giving them the information they need. Create the standard paper flyer to attach to the poster board. Include a picture of your pet, a description, and your contact information. Withhold a small piece of specific information about your pet, though. That way you have something you can ask of people who call claiming that they have found your furry family member.

Protect The Flyer

Before you put the flyer on the poster, put it into a plastic page protector. Then, use clear packing tape to stick the protected flyer to the poster board. Put a strip of tape along each edge. That way you don't have to worry about weather or other issues with the paper, because it is secure.

Look To Online Sources

Take a photograph of your missing pet poster and post it in some of the local classified places. There are even websites dedicated to missing pet listings, so consider putting your information there as well. The easier it is to find you, the sooner you'll get your pet back.

These tips will help you to create missing pet flyers and listings that are more likely to help you find your lost furry friend. Talk with a local pet rescue or missing pet service to see what else you may be able to do.
